A LITTLE STORY
It started quite inauspiciously in a little gift shop
somewhere in a small town of Nebraska. My spouse had again
pulled me by the collar to go look at Boyds® Bears. A hundred
miles down the road, in yet another of those small cluttered
little shops with potpourri so thick you searched for an
oxygen tank, I queried over a book on the rack. Something called
a "Collector's Guide". Flipping through the pages I thought I
recognized some of those little bear things the store owner and
spouse were haggling over at the counter. So, I wove my way
around the bulging shelves of fake flowers, woven baskets and
slightly dusty trinkets, to the high wall display spouse had
been staring at earlier. The sign above read,
"BOYDS BEARSTONESTM
Bears and Hares You Can Trust".
I was a little dizzy from lack of fresh air, but I thought I
had matched some of those bears with the ones in the book. I
couldn't tell for sure. My eyes had started watering from the
heavily laden air.
"Hey, I need some air! Can I take this book outside with me?"
The wash of fresh air was like a slap in the face! I knew I had
seen that bear in there. Hummmm? Says here the things is worth
$130. The price tag says $14.95!! Yep! I was gone.
Three hundred dollars and 30 minutes later we're the car and
spouse says,"It sure is a good thing she gave us that brochure
for free!"
BACKGROUND
Our "Little Story" took place in the 1990's. Today we are looking
at 2003 and we are called The Bear Collector.com. We weren't
always called that. No, the very original title, as we entered
the internet was "Bears: Boyds BearstonesTM Secondary Marketplace",
which we then shortened to "Boyds BearstonesTM Secondary Marketplace".
This site still exists. It was launched in May of 1998. Why?
Well, we had accumulated quite a number of BearstonesTM from those
little shops and we weren't selling them very well. So, a Website
sounded like a good idea.
In the meantime, we had looked into some other things of interest
and had launched them on the Internet as well. It was a little
confusing so we decided to organize. Hence was born "TL&B Enterprises."
TL&B Enterprises includes TLB Wholesale, Secondary Marketplace and
TL's Originals. Secondary Marketplace is the real world name we
use for The Bear Collector.com and Boyds BearstonesTM Secondary
Marketplace. All of our copyrights are therefore written as

SECONDAY MARKET
The Bear Collector.com is a Secondary Market for Boyds BearstonesTM.
We purchase BearstonesTM, inspect them, grade them and price them.
All BearstonesTM are intended to be Mint-In-Box, which includes
the original box, original card, original packing and a stone
that is free from nonproduction defects. We clean the BearstonesTM
when it is needed before resale. Our Guarantee is based on this
process of "checking-in" the BearstonesTM.
This procedure of making sure each BearstoneTM is MIB is something
that we are very particular about and assures you that what we are
selling is of the highest quality (for the price) and of original
make-up. Having all the of the original aspects of the BearstoneTM
is something that makes us somewhat unique in the Secondary Market,
because other dealers may not be aware of the necessary details
or know what the original condition should be. We do!
REFERENCE/VALUE GUIDE
The Boyds BearstoneTM Reference Guide is one of our "stellar"
attributes. We have studied and recorded much information about
each of the BearstonesTM produced. We research aspects as they
come into play for us. We physically see and inspect hundreds
of BearstonesTM each year. Over our tenure of collecting and
dealing with BearstonesTM we have literally seen thousands of
Boyds BearstonesTM.
To date we count the change of the paw print in Grenville The
Santa Bear and the "Unknown" variation of Bailey In The Orchard
as our most significant discoveries.
Our "expertise" of BearstonesTM probably cannot be rivaled in the
Boyds® community. And, you will not find any other publication
in hard copy or on the internet that has what we have presented in
the BearstoneTM Reference/Value Guide, except
The Collector's Handbook!
THE COLLECTOR'S HANDBOOK
An outgrowth from the Reference/Value Guide is The Collector's
Handbook. As we "checked in" all of the stones that we received
we recorded all the pertinent data about them. (We continue to do
this today). You cannot imagine the things we found. Seeming
difficult questions became obvious. Minor observances became
benchmarks for dating.
The Collector's Handbook is a monumental work detailing the
authentication of the stones and their peripherals. If you are
abrased by our own use of the term experts or expertise--reserve
your judgement until you have read The Collector's Handbook.
Try putting together and authenticating any BearstoneTM, in any
edition with the correct box, card and packing. The exclusivity
of this work stands on its own.
