EDITIONS

What are editions all about?

All regular issue BearstonesTM are numbered. If you look on the bottom of the BearstoneTM you will see something like this 3E/2345. The first number, represented by the "E", is the Edition. The second number is the number of the piece within the Edition. Here we would read 3E/2345 as Third Edition and the 2345th piece in this Edition.

Each Edition for BearstonesTM, currently, has 6000 pieces. Prior to the release of the 2000 Spring Releases, each regular or open issue of a BearstoneTM had 3600 pieces in each Edition.

The Edition numbering begins with each new BearstoneTM in the First Edition (1E) and continues in number sequence (i.e., 2E, 3E,...45E) until the Bearstone is retired from production. So, they number the first 6000 pieces as 1E, the second 6000 as 2E, until production stops. Another example is 23E/1675, which would read the 1675th piece in the 23rd Edition.

Prior to the Spring Releases for 2000 we noted that each Edition had 3600 pieces. This makes the 1E of these stones just a bit more special and a little harder to find and afford.

This numbering system may vary within the enitirety of the Boyds Collection of resins. The BearstoneTM Nativity Series or Pageant Series has 7200 pieces in each Edition. This is also true for the Noah Ark Series.

BLANK BOTTOM

At very rare times you may come across a BearstoneTM that has nothing on the bottom of the stone. The Understamp is blank. This is not an anomaly. When they began producing the BearstonesTM the employees were given a chance to purchase these prior to issuance. The version of BearstoneTM they were given was a "Blank Bottom" version. There really isn't anyway to ascertain how many blank bottom versions were given out to the employees, but suffice it to say, these are very limited!

This is a beginning point to understanding Editions.
