PREMIER EDITION EXCLUSIVES - PEE EXCLUSIVE EDITIONS - EE A Premier Edition is the issue of an edition of a Bearstone that is exclusively offered by QVC. (QVC is a cable network shopping channel. It can be found online at www.qvc.com). Usually you see a Premier Edition referred to as PE. The PE marks the debut of the Bearstone offered. The Understamp has the printed words "Premier Edition." You will not find Premier Edition on any Bearstone unless it debuted on QVC. Premier Editions are most often numbered. For example, the Understamp may look something like this: Premier Edition__#2543 (The number is handwritten on the Edition line). A Premier Edition is an edition that is pre 1E. Prior to 1999, to the best of our knowledge, all PEs were later issued in regular edition and sold at the retail stores. In 1999 the Bearstone Nana Bearhugs (#227725V) was issued as a PE. However, she never came out as a regular edition in the Bearstone line. Therefore, we call this type of PE a "PE Exclusive" or PEE. These Bearstones still have the printing Premier Edition on the Understamp, but one must know from elsewhere that they were never issued in the regular or open edition. Premier Editions do not have a static number of pieces. Many times the number of pieces in a PE have been less than the regular editions. So you need to know how many are in the Premier Edition to know how you did in getting a low number. Judging from past experience, about 2000 to 3000 in a Premier Edition (for a Bearstone) is a fair range to have in mind. For your review, regular editions now have 6000 in an edition. Prior to 2000 issues the number in a regular edition was 3600. And finally, the Style Number on the Understamp of a PE will be followed with the letter "V". For example, #228320V is the Style Number for the PE S. Kringlebeary...Have A Simple Christmas. EXCLUSIVE EDITIONS - EE Though the use of the Special Tag "Exclusive Edition" is not new to Bearstones, the use with regard to QVC began to take on special meaning in the year 2002. When QVC offers a Bearstone with the tag Exclusive Edition it means that the Bearstone will be of the same mold as a concurrent stone (in regular or open edition) or one that has been produced but not yet released for sale at the retailers. What is special about Exclusive Editions is that they have a different coloration from their counterpart stone. A good example of this is the Exclusive Edition Merci...Thanks A Bunch (#228378-1V) released on QVC in the Spring of 2002. She has a blue sweater. The counterpart stone to Merci is the 2002 Fall Release Merci (#228378) who has a pink sweater. Please note that the QVC Exclusive Edition has the "-1V" denotation in the Style Number. The other very special thing about Exclusive Editions from QVC is that the edition size is usually very small. In the case of Merci the edition size was only 1800! The largest edition size we have seen is 3000. And remember, this is the total number produced! The Collector's Handbook has an extensive discussion of the various kinds of Style #s and their meaning. Here we have only presented a short definition of the QVC issues so you can identify them. Read About The Collector's Handbook GIFT CREATION CONCEPTS - GCC GCC is an acronym for Gift Creation Concepts. This is a syndicated business that distributes products to subscribers of their service. You would be interested in this because Boyds contracts with GCC to issue two kinds of editions. First is the "Early Introductory Issue". This issue is a pre 1E edition and generally does not have numbers on the understamp. You will only see Early Introductory Issue with GCC. It appears that this issue is followed in about a year (sometimes less) with a regular edition issue. Second is the "Exclusive Issue". We discussed GCC Exclusives as a LE. (You view that information HERE). GCC Exclusives may be numbered or not. When they are numbered they usually have edition numbers (1E, 2E,...). The understamp of both of these is denoted with Gift Creation Concepts and Introductory Issue 19xx or Exclusive Issue 19xx. The style number on the understamp may be #xxxxGCC or just the style number. When one these is listed the style # is usually #GCCxxxx followed by Exclusive or Early Introductory Issue 19xx. Retail dealers are the only stores that carry GCC Bearstones and they usually advertise that they are a GCC Dealer. PARADE OF GIFTS - POG POG is an acronym for Parade of Gifts. This is a syndicated business that distributes products to subscribers of their service. You would be interested in this because in 1998 Boyds started contracting with POG to issue Exclusive Bearstones. The exclusive Bearstones are denoted with Parade of Gifts written on the understamp with the style #xxxxxxPOG. When it is listed usually it is denoted #POGxxxx for the style number. POG Exclusives may have numbers on the understamp. We discussed POG Exclusives as a LE HERE). Retail dealers are the only stores that carry POG Bearstones and they usually advertise that they are a POG Dealer. NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF LIMITED EDITION DEALERS - NALED NALED is an acronym for National Association of Limited Edition Dealers. This is a syndicated business that distributes products to subscribers of their service. You would be interested in this because Boyds has in the past issued Bearstone products through this service. NALED issues have always been exclusives and therefore fall within the categorization of LEs. The understamp will bear their name and may have numbers. Retail dealers are the only stores that carry NALED Bearstones and they usually advertise that they are a NALED Dealer. SYNDICATED - SYN SYN is an acronym for Syndicated. This again is a syndicated business that distributes products to subscribers of their service. Your interest is in the fact that they distribute Bearstone products through this service. It is important to note that Syndicated includes GCC, POG and NALED dealers. Therefore, if you see an understamp that has a style number #xxxxxxSYN you can purchase this from all of these dealers. The understamp will state "Special Edition 19xx". There are no numbers in these issues. This is also discussed as a LE since they are exclusives the same as POG, NALED and GCC Exclusives.
