![]() "We Deal In Quality And Trust!" A Comprehensive Site For Boyds Bearstones®Reference / Value Guide & Secondary Market Resource![]() Your ad here for $5.00/month! Advertise In This Space BEARSTONE® BASICSA Learning CenterRSWhat is this? RS has been popularized as an acronym meaning "Resculptured" or "Resculpted". (Sometimes you will find in the Folkstones the GRS, which has near the same meaning as RS). The reason that RS has become popularized as resculpted is because it appears that "almost" everytime the designation on the understamp includes RS, the Bearstone's® mold has been changed. Do not get confused. Not all variations or mold changes come with the designation RS. However, when the designation RS is used then there is, a majority of the time, a variation from the original mold. So what does Boyds say about this?Their official word is that RS designates that the factory of production changed. This would then explain the GRS, whereas the RS designates the first factory change and GRS the second factory change. How important is this? That depends on your level of passion for these little Bearstones®. A serious collector wants every variation in their collection and consequently the RS is very important. The casual collector finds the variation amusing but not of great import. EDITIONS IN RS Of important note is that in late 1998 there were a considerable number of RS Versions hitting the market. Most of these Bearstones® were issued in early to middle 1997. At the same time there was a lot of discussion about the number of pieces that should be in an edition for regular issues. This was ostensibly brought about by the number of large retailers wanting 1Es and the limited number of them. Whether coincidental or not the designated RS Versions that came out, beginning in late 1998, began again with 1E! So now you have, for example, #227701-07 in 1E and #227701-07RS in 1E. This Bearstone® is Edmund The Graduate-Carpe Diem. In our listings of all the Bearstones® you will find that these Versions are separated and noted. WANT TO LEARN MORE?
