Value Guides or sometimes called Current Value Guides (CVG) are hard copy publications listing collectible products with pictures, style numbers, retirement information and a synopsis of what they have derived as the current value for each product. There is only one CVG, that we are aware of, that is still being published and offered for sale at various retail outlets around the country. If a retailer sells Boyds, then they probably have a Value Guide for the kind of products they offer. The price for the Resin Value Guide runs about $16 or $17. Value Guides serve an important purpose in that they provide printed information indicating a monetary value for the Bearstones and other products of Boyds. This monetary value is most properly used to ascertain a dollar amount for insurance purposes. If you want to insure your collection (and you should) then the value to place on each piece in your collection should come from a Value Guide. These monetary values are especially helpful for filing claims with insurance companies, UPS and the USPS. Value Guides, most often, are published once a year. They usually present new ones in the early spring of each year. Value Guide figures for values of Bearstones are historically higher than the current open market monetary value. Please remember that Value Guides are just guides to set value for insurance purposes. Value Guides should not be the authoritative final price setters for the open market. Open Market values are distinctly different from Value Guide values. This is how it should be. The Value Guides should have values that will match actual costs for replacement, which includes the price of the stone, the shipping, the insurance for shipping, time and effort finding the stone and other costs such as a broker. The Open Market value is just the price of the stone. In our own value segment of the Reference / Value Guide we account for the price of the stone and other incurable costs to set a value. Below is an explanation of how we arrived at our values for each Bearstone. THE BEAR COLLECTOR.comCurrent Value Guides Range The dollar amounts listed on each of the Bearstones' and other items' pages noted as Current Value Guides Range are for MIB items only. The dollar amounts listed on each of the Bearstones' and other items' pages noted as Current Value Guides Range were derived from a formula derived from several years of study. The formula was created from information gleened from auction sites, a number of actual Value Guides, our sales, our purchases and a little common sense anticipating increases/decreases of valuation. At the very least, the monetary amounts listed in Value Guides are there to give you a sense of the overall value of a particular Bearstone or item. For instance: Is this really exclusive? If it has a high monetary value it probably is! Is this one really rare? If it has a very high monetary value it is! By having this overall sense of the value of a Bearstone, you can shop around more efficiently and be more aware of prices that you are quoted. There is so much more that goes into the value of a BearstoneTM than a listing in a Value Guide. These Guides are just guides. Use your common sense. WANT TO LEARN MORE?
