HERE ARE THE VARIATIONS FROM PAUL TO BLADE:

Canadian Exclusive Edition Vs. Open Edition
STYLE NUMBER
#228357PO Vs. #228357
EDITIONS
Both have normal numbering from 1E @ 6000 per edition.
BOX
The stickers of identification on the box are different by
style # suffix and picture.
HALLMARK
Both are the same.
MOLD
Both are exactly the same.
COLOR DESIGN
Paul is obviously Canadian, featuring the red jersey with a
Maple Leaf in its center. He has brown skates and green leggings.
Blade is clearly Boyds, featuring a paw print in the center
of a tan jersey. He has black skates and tan/yellow leggings.
COLORATION
Though you cannot see it in these images, Paul has fewer teeth while Blade has more teeth on the left side of his mouth.
CONCLUSIONS
This is a Canadian vs. Open Edition variation akin to the early Homer On The Plate and a later Purrstone variation Dominique vs. Nadia. Both of these sported identical molds, but different color designs--just as we have here. However, in both of these previous cases the style numbers were different.
The occurance of identical style numbers is not new with variations. In fact, most classic variations are identified in
this manner. You will find this with #2000 Bailey Bear With Suitcase, #2001 Simone de Bearvoire & Her Mom, #2005 Moriarity ...The Bear In The Cat Suit, etc. These were, however,
significant due to mold changes.
More recently, the #228320V S. Kringlebeary...Have A Simple Christmas and #228320 Sandy Claus...Have A Simple Christmas
Variation (Where the Name and the PE with the "V" designation
is the variation), similarly has no mold changes, but the color
design is the same.
The point is that this variation is a slightly NEW wrinkle from
Boyds and the FIRST of this specific type of variation--Same Style
Number, Same Mold, Different Name and Different Color Design.
